What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-thin, sterile disposable needles into specific acupuncture points on the body. The acupuncture points are located along pathways of energy (called Chi) which connect the body's interior with the body's exterior. Acupuncture points, when needled, can affect the function of the body, such as increasing circulation, balancing hormone levels, or relaxing muscle tension, and reducing the heart rate. Acupuncture is also widely used in the reduction of pain and inflammation associated with muscle and joint disorders. Acupuncture works by triggering a response through the body's nervous system.
